IndischHistorisch.nl meets Berkeley. Bronbeek 14 juli 2011

Op 14 juli 2011 heeft IndischHistorisch.nl de groep studenten van Berkeley ontvangen in Bronbeek. Als onderdeel van hun Travel Study Course was een kennismaking met Indisch Nederland ingepland. Als centraal onderwerp was gekozen voor identiteit van de Indische migrant vanaf de repatriëring en hun inburgering. Naast dit serieuze onderwerp was er natuurlijk spekkoek, een Indische lunch en gezelligheid. Een echte kennismaking met Indisch Nederland dus!
July 14th 2011 IndischHistorisch.nl hosted Berkeley students as a part of their Study Travel program in the Netherlands, Luxemburg and Belgium. A central theme of the visit was the historical development of Indo identity in the postcolonial era. The students met Indo's of second and third generation. It was not only a serious rendez-vous, the traditional spekkoek (a specific cake built of several thin layers), a genuine Indische lunch and of course a lot of gezelligheid (the "famous" indo-dutch ambiance) taught the visitors the Indo color of multicultural Netherlands.

Dutch author with Indo roots Adriaan van Dis was special guest at the conference. His keynote lecture was entitled Squeezed Between Rice and Potato: Personal reflections on a Dutch (post) colonial youth. The link brings you to the complete text of the lecture. Soon more information about the conference. Especially attention to the lecture of editor Inge Dümpel. Her presentation is hopefully a reanimation of the interest in youth literature. Inge is convinced an authentic Indo-European youth literature emerged during colonial times and continued in postcolonial era.

Humphrey de la Croix, Inge Dümpel and Adriaan van Dis: an "Indo rendez-vous"

IndischHistorisch.nl op bezoek in Californië
Hoofdredacteur Humphrey de la Croix en redacteur Inge Dümpel zijn van 10 tot 18 september 2011 Berkeley geweest. Zij hebben ontmoetingen gehad met in Californië woonachtige Indische Nederlanders en de studenten van Berkeley die het AmerIndo project uitvoeren. Onze redacteuren hebben een warm onthaal genoten van zowel de "Amerindo's" als de studenten en niet te vergeten hun supervisor prof. dr. Jeroen Dewulf. Naast deze ontmoetingen en het nader uitwerken van de samenwerking, is Inge de gelegenheid geboden een lezing te houden in het kader van de conferentie. U kunt binnenkort de video-opname op IndischHistorisch.nl bekijken. Ook op de conferentie zélf zullen we uitgebreider ingaan. We zullen dat opnemen in het verslag in woord en beeld van ons gehele werkbezoek.
